Daniel Simon

Daniel Simon is a PhD candidate in the Department of Sociology and is affiliated with the CU Population Center at the Institute of Behavioral Science. He is a social demographer interested in the ways in which “upstream” social forces shape suicide and mortality risks. His previous research has also explored the relationship between climate variability, migration, and health in Mexico, as well as recent trends in U.S. “deaths of despair” mortality. This and other work has been featured in various journals, including the American Journal of Epidemiology, International Journal of Epidemiology, Biodemography and Social Biology, Population and Environment, and Global Environmental Change. His research is funded by the National Science Foundation through a Graduate Research Fellowship award.
