Catherine Talbot is a Ph.D. candidate in Sociology and a graduate affiliate of the Population Program with the Institute of Behavioral Science at the University of Colorado Boulder. Catherine has a B.S. in Geological Sciences and an M.S. in Geological Sciences (specializing in Hydrogeology) from Indiana University, Bloomington.
Her interest lies in the intersections of social demography and the environment, focusing on childhood health outcomes as a function of place, migration, and climate change. Her dissertation examines the intersections between water, energy, food security (WEF-nexus), livelihoods, and health in rural South Africa. She is particularly interested in the influences of temporary migration and climate change on child health.
In addition, she is involved in several other interdisciplinary projects, including examining long-term trends in the demographic characteristics of rural communities, life-expectancy trends among U.S. states, the role of extreme environmental events in shaping health outcomes of elderly residents in the United States, and exploring spatial methodologies’ application to linked population-environment data.
She is experienced in quantitative statistical analysis and spatial analysis. She is familiar with the following programs/programming languages: Stata, Mplus, HLM, Python, Visual Basic, ArcGIS, QGIS.
