Call for papers ~ 2nd Annual IGSS Conference

With support from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development and the Population Association of America, the Institute of Behavioral Science and CU Population Center are hosting the 2nd annual conference entitled Integrating Genetics and the Social Sciences. The goal of this conference is to showcase behavioral and molecular genetic studies that enhance demographic and social scientific inquiry or in some way integrate genetics and the social sciences. Researchers from any of the biological or social sciences are encouraged to participate. Interested researchers are encouraged to examine the conference website from 2010 at: https://cupc.colorado.edu/conferences/IGSS_2010/
To be considered for this conference, please submit a complete paper, a working draft, or an extended abstract (including data description, methods, and preliminary results) as a .pdf file to boardman@colorado.edu by January 15th, 2011. Please use the subject line IGSS 2011 and indicate that this submission is for the 2011 Conference in the text of your email. Decisions will be made by February 1st and participants will have until May 15th to update final drafts of their papers. Travel funds are available to a limited number of participants. Please indicate in your submission if you are interested in being considered for these funds.
The conference is co-hosted by Jason Boardman, Institute of Behavioral Science and Department of Sociology, University of Colorado at Boulder and Jason Fletcher, Division of Health Policy and Administration and School of Public Health, Yale University and Robert Wood Johnson Health & Society Scholar, Columbia University. Genome-Wide Analysis Workshop for Social Scientists

CUPC just secured additional funds to provide a one day short course on genome-wide association techniques using FBAT and PLINK following the conference. The course, offered on June 2nd, 2011, will be taught by Matt McQueen (Assistant Professor with the Institute for Behavioral Genetics and the department of Integrated Physiology at CU Boulder). This will be a HANDS-ON workshop using genome-wide data in the computer lab of the new IBS building.
Participation in the conference is not required for participation in the workshop and enrollment will be limited to 25. Interested persons should send an email to Jason Boardman (boardman@colorado.edu) indicating that they would like to participate in the short course. Please do this before January 15th and include a short CV and a brief statement describing your background and your interest in the class. There is no registration fee for this workshop.
Announcements regarding participation in the workshop will be made the first week of February.
