Jane Menken Distinguished Lecture in Population Studies

Jane Menken and Tania Barham

This year’s Jane Menken Distinguished Lecture in Population Studies was held on January 19th, 2023. A globally influential figure in studies of human fertility and reproductive health, Jane Menken is a Distinguished Professor Emerita and Past Director of IBS. The event is held biannually, and this year’s invited speaker was Dr. Deborah Balk, of City University of New York, who presented her lecture “Confronting the Rising Tide: Population Exposure, Change and Prospects in Low-lying Costal Areas”. The talk certainly spurred some engaging discussion and questions from the audience!

It was really refreshing to see our community come together again to celebrate Jane’s accomplishments and contributions – including Chancellor Phil Distefano, Vice Chancellor for Research Massimo Ruzzene, and Arts & Sciences Dean Glen Krutz!
